In November 2002, the Pulitzer prize-winning Suzan-Lori Parks sat down and committed to writing a play a day for the next 365 days.  The world premiere of this play cycle will be performed as a yearlong national festival simultaneously in major cities and communities around the country.  From November 13, 2006 to November 12, 2007, over 600 theaters in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, Washington D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis, the Carolinas, Mississippi River towns, and university campuses will create the largest theater collaboration in U.S. History.

The Public will spearhead the New York component 365 Days/365 Plays by gathering together a widely diverse cross-section of over 75 New York theater companies to participate in this project. Throughout the year, the selected theaters - curated by The Public and the 365 Days/365 Plays Project - will perform these brief, brilliant snapshots from the imagination of one of America's leading playwrights in numerous locations throughout the city.

While you are safely sleeping and tucked inside your cozy bed, there are defenders of the public good who tirelessly fight on your behalf. You will never know who they are, or what they have done for you, or how close the world has come to oblivion.

Zoo District, together with writer/director Brian Frette’ is proud to present the world premiere of The Defenders.

A gleeful take on the great spy shows of the Sixties. The Defenders brings bioterrorism and counterintelligence to the stage as well as hand-to-hand combat in the form of thinly-disguised tangos, slow-motion ballet, interrogations, and real-time Ninja mayhem.

Terrorism meets is match in the guise of The Defenders.

Thurs, Fri, Sat 8pm - Sun 2pm

Imagine you are nine years old and suddenly King of one of the most powerful nations the world has ever known.

This is an intimate look at the life of Tutankhamen. His father, Akhenaten, eradicated the old Religion and incurred the enmity of the Priesthood, he was declared a heretic and his memory erased from the official records. His stepmother, Nefertiti, was the most beautiful woman in the ancient world. His general was one of the strongest Egypt had known, his Prime Minister had his own agenda and was powerful enough to act on it. What is it like growing up in a world where you can have anything you want, where your slightest whim is national law?

All of this and more is explored through the use of exciting, dynamic choreography with music and text, together combined to present a singular vision of Egyptian life during one of the most tumultuous periods in ancient Egypt. There is intrigue, and plotting and survival. Who can you trust? Who do you turn to? Find out in 'The BoyKing'.
